Julius Caesar Remembered Today

Today Julias Caesar is remembered not for his vital role in transforming the Roman Republic into the Roman Empire but for his death.

It was today back in 44 BC that Julias Caesar was killed by his own friends that he once pardoned. On the Ides of March, Caesar was due to appear at the Senate. Casca stabbed Caesar and then the whole group, around 60 were reported, joined in. Caesar was stabbed a total of 23 times killing him. As he fell to his death he saw Brutus among his conspirators and uttered his famous last words, �and you, Brutus?�

-Caesar was reportedly insecure about balding, and was happy he was awarded with a wreath for his head, hiding his baldness.

HISTORY :

102/100 B.C Julius Caesar was born to a patrian family.

85 B.C Julius� father died. And a few years later he married Cornelia, the daughter of a prominent member of the Popular faction; she later gave birth to Julius�only legitimate child, a daughter, Julia.

79 B.C Julius, on the staff of a military legate, was awarded the civic crown (oak leaves) for saving the life of a citizen in battle.

75 B.C While sailing to Greece, Julius was kidnapped by Cilician pirates and held for ransom. When informed that they intended to ask for 20 talents, he is supposed to have insisted that he was worth at least 50. He maintained a friendly, joking relationship with the pirates while the money was being raised, but warned them that he would track them down and have them crucified after he was released. He did just that, with the help of volunteers, as a warning to other pirates, but he first cut their throats to lessen their suffering because they had treated him well.

72 B.C Julius was elected military tribune.

69 B.C He spoke at the funerals of both his aunt, Julia, and his wife, Cornelia.

59 B.C Julius was elected consul.

49 B.C Julius tried to maintain his position legally, but when he was pushed to the limit he led his armies across the Rubicon River, which was automatic civil war.

47 B.C Julius left Alexandria, having established Cleopatra as a client ruler in alliance with Rome. Either immediately before or soon after he left Egypt, Cleopatra gave birth to a son, whom she named Caesarion, claiming that he was the son of Julius.

44 B.C Julius was assissanated by a group seantors, he was stabbed in the back with a dagger.
